Who this day is suitable for:

Nurses working within the specialist sphere of stoma care. Through a mix of theory, practical exercises, and reflective practice, participants will develop the skills to engage in compassionate, empathetic, and effective patient care. Key areas include active listening, ethical decision-making, self-awareness, and strategies for managing challenging conversations. The workshop fosters deeper patient connections and builds emotional resilience, leading to improved care outcomes.

 

Learning objectives:

Understand the Principles of Person-Centred Counselling: Gain a solid understanding of the core values of personcentred counselling, including individuality, independence, and respect, and their relevance in stoma care.

Create a Non-Judgmental Environment: Learn techniques to foster a supportive, non-judgmental space where patients feel comfortable exploring their experiences and emotions.

Utilise Empathy in Counselling: Develop skills to empathetically understand patients’ feelings, promoting openness and trust in counselling sessions.

Support Client-Led Conversations: Encourage patients to guide their own counselling sessions, helping them take ownership of their emotional and physical journey with stoma care.

Apply Congruence in Practice: Understand the importance of congruence, ensuring that your actions and behaviour as a stoma care professional align authentically with your feelings and professional role.
